Shanty Lyrics
As Shanties have been around since the 15th century then not surprisingly the older the song the more variations of lyrics, and even song name, can be found and heard. The lyrics on this page (well at least the chorus!) are what the Steam Town Shanty Crew sing but today, just as yesteryear, the person leading the shanty may put their own spin on the verses. Shanties are often learnt by listening and repeating, to aid this links are provided to recordings of Steam Town Shanty Crew or other Bands performances that are similar in style and rhythm to how we perform the song.
